3 The BlueBerry London Road Blewbury Oxford OX11 9NU davidchild205@gmail.com 07941 531893 07597 703447 Lethal, dangerous, badly maintained and in desperate need of re-designing to avoid any more accidents, near misses and possible casualties - or worse.! Corner of New Road and Blewbury Road, at memorial junction. East Hagbourne. Map attached. Since May this year, when I cycle between Blewbury and Didcot I have had 3 near misses and 1 actual contact accident. 4 traffic occurrences in just 5 months.! The last accident resulted in the car spinning round and ending up backwards against the verge and I was scrapped along the side of the car and my bike and I ended up on the the memorial mound.! The corner is so bad that the 94 bus has to stop diagonally, completely across the corner, blocking both lanes and swing it’s front over the edge of the memorial mound. Cars wanting to cut across the corner to go down main Road have to race across the memorial mound as quickly as possible because the corner is completely blind - this results in cars side ways across the near side as traffic suddenly appears from the blind corner.! I forget how many times I have had to brake heavily on the junction due to a car right across my lane that was invisible on the corner _ and obviously, I was invisible to him - as well.! The terrible condition of the road means that the gravel and holes make it lethal in an emergancy and causes you to skid and slide. THE PROBLEM 1 the corner is a VERY acute angle of about 75 degrees OR LESS.! Therefore the line of sight vanishes through the corner.! Vehicles coming into the corner are blind until over half way round.! They can’t be blamed to be surprised to find another vehicle OR BIKE, already in the corner… The exit of the junction is invisible as you approach. 2 The very tall hedging ( 3 metres ) completely hide any vision at the junction. Into and around the corner. 3 The memorial mound restricts the road width substantially on the corner; funnelling the vehicles into kerbs. 4 the terrible condition of the road surface is abhorrent.! The tarmac disappears a few metres before the junction; at both entrances, and is then gravel, pot holes and various different coloured mixed patches and levels. These are lethal when wet.! Cars are often forced to brake heavily on this blind corner. Bicycles don’t always fear so well. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS A. 1 cut the hedges down to 1m 2 Remove the memorial. Make this junction a mini, painted, roundabout, with give way at each entrance. Approaching signage. Slow Roundabout Give way
