Hazardous exit fromnew footpath onto road

A new footpath across the Stour View housing development exits via a gate onto Woodway Road, almost opposite an existing public footpath. The exit is on a bend and has a steeply banked drop onto the single-track road with poor visibility along the road in both directions. Should a pedestrian be surprised by oncoming traffic, they would have to scramble back up the steep bank to safety. Drivers will not notice the gate until almost upon it. Can the exit be made safer for pedestrians?
