Buses and Lorries cutting verge up

Reported via mobile in the Footways and Pavement damage category by Cllr Paul Aram at 15:16, Wednesday 3 June 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

As previously reported, the verges are being damaged by buses and lorries having to use the verge to avoid oncoming vehicles. This damage was repaired by Thames Water last year after their tankers destroyed the grass verge but subsequent vehicles have caused the damage in the photos.

There are three bends close together that have been damaged. On the junction of Summertown and Mill Orchard, heading towards the A338 the left hand bend on Summertown and at the A338 turning into Summertown.

As there are no footpaths at this location it means that pedestrians have to walk on the verge where large vehicles also cross onto.

The Parish Council requests OCC to urgently review the damage and danger and make suggestions of how this can be resolved. The council has also been informed of damage to residents driveways.

There should be protection put in place to prevent vehicles from mounting the verge - such as extra high kerbing or bollards.
