Persistent pavement flooding issue outside of 57 Wantage Road, Didcot, OX110AE, which remains unresolved despite being formally reported.
During rainfall, standing water accumulates across the full width of the public pavement, making it impassable. As this pavement forms part of the adopted highway, I understand that the local authority has a responsibility under highways legislation to maintain it in a safe and usable condition for pedestrians.
As a result of the flooding:
Pedestrians are forced into the carriageway or onto my private property to pass safely
Disabled access is completely prevented, including for wheelchair and mobility aid users
Water repeatedly encroaches onto my property and is causing damp to the external walls
This situation presents an ongoing safety and accessibility risk and, in my view, constitutes a failure to properly maintain the highway.
I have reported this issue twice via FixMyStreet, but I have received no response and no remedial works have been carried out. Given the continued risk to public safety and damage to my property, I am extremely concerned by the lack of action.
I believe a permanent solution is required, such as improved surface drainage or the installation of a soakaway, to prevent recurring flooding and ensure the pavement remains fit for purpose.
