To Oxfordshire County Council, I am writing again to raise serious concern regarding the pothole I previously reported, as marked on the map. Despite my earlier notification, no action has been taken, and the condition of this pothole has significantly deteriorated. The situation has now reached a dangerous level, posing a clear and escalating risk to vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Each day that passes without repair increases the likelihood of an entirely avoidable accident or damage to property. As you will be aware, under the Highways Act 1980, the Council has a statutory duty to maintain roads in a safe condition and to take reasonable steps to address reported defects. Allowing a known hazard to worsen over time falls short of that obligation. It is unacceptable that an issue reported in good time has been allowed to deteriorate without any visible progress or communication. I expect a prompt update confirming when this pothole will be repaired and assurance that it will be treated as a priority due to the clear safety implications. Please confirm acknowledgement of this message and provide a repair timeline as soon as possible. Given the length of time this defect has been left unresolved, I must also make clear that if damage or injury occurs as a result of the Council’s failure to act, I will have no option but to pursue the appropriate legal avenues, including a formal claim for negligence and breach of statutory duty. I sincerely hope swift action makes such steps unnecessary. With Council Tax increases, residents rightly expect to see improvements to Oxfordshire’s roads, which for too long have been allowed to decline. Kind regards, Daniel PM
