Trees close to electricity lines

Hi, please advise. Barleycott lane is a Byway open to all traffic and therefore public land. A number of trees along the side of the lane (on the land occupied by the land and the ditch beside it) are growing into the overhead electrical cables. The SSEN website suggests contacting the local council where trees growing into cables are on public land. Can the Council cut the trees down or tell me who is responsible? many thanks Paul

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I have visited the location and assessed the trees. The trees are part of a boundary feature to the extent of the by-way. The trees present are the responsibility of the adjacent landowner and not by the County Council. You need to contact the landowner to request any works. If you do not know the landowner, I advise that you access the Land Registry, to find details of the adjacent landowner to progress your enquiry with them. You are within your common law rights to cut any overhanging vegetation back to the boundary line of your property, providing the work is not detrimental to the tree.. The report will now be closed on Fix My Street.
