A safety inspection under the Highways Act 1980, is required along the entirety of the A4130 that runs through Didcot. The current state of this section of roadway is unacceptable and fails to meet the standard required of a safely maintained public highway. Under your statutory obligations within the Highways Act 1980, tax payers expect the following without delay:
Immediate inspection and urgent remedial works to eliminate multiple hazards. A clear, written timeframe for temporary and permanent repairs. Provision of inspection, maintenance, and defect‑report records for this location.
This correspondence constitutes a formal record of your notice of the hazards. Should the defects remain unaddressed and cause vehicle damage or personal injury, Affected motorists may consider pursuing all available legal remedies, including:
A claim for damages arising from failure to maintain the highway in a safe condition. Use of documented notice as evidence of prior knowledge of the defect. Seeking reimbursement for repair costs, losses, or any injury‑related expenses attributable to the defect.
I require a written response confirming the actions being taken and the schedule for completing repairs.
