Unsafe parking, restricted road width and emergency access concerns – Wey Road, Berinsfield Location Wey Road, Berinsfield, OX10 7PT (please log against the full length of Wey Road) Issue Description Parking conditions on Wey Road have deteriorated significantly and now present an ongoing highway safety and emergency access risk. Vehicles are routinely parked along both sides of the road, as well as displaced onto adjoining streets. This has the effect of severely narrowing the carriageway, reducing forward visibility and creating pinch points that make it difficult for vehicles to pass safely. The situation raises particular concern regarding: • Emergency vehicle access (fire appliances and ambulances) • Reduced visibility for drivers and pedestrians • Increased risk to children, elderly residents, and those with mobility impairments • Access difficulties for refuse and service vehicles A contributing factor is the lack of effective off-street parking use. Several garages on Wey Road, owned by South Oxfordshire Housing Association (SOHA), appear to be vacant and unused for extended periods. Residents who would otherwise use these garages are forced to park on the highway, increasing congestion and safety risks. Despite the issues being raised with SOHA, no interim measures have been taken, and the parking situation on Wey Road remains unmitigated. Why this is a safety concern • The road width is frequently reduced to the point where vehicles must stop or reverse to pass • Sightlines are compromised, particularly near bends and junctions • There is a real risk that emergency vehicles could be delayed or obstructed • The issue is ongoing, foreseeable, and worsening Request
