Pothole half the width of the road

Reported via mobile in the Pothole category anonymously at 07:43, Saturday 3 January 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

A pothole has been in location for over 12 months continuing to erode. With recent colds weather it is now half the width of the road and constantly filled with water making it easy for motorists to confuse with simple surface water if unfamiliar with the road. It is now a hazard and requires urgent attention.

  • Many roads in area have surface water obscuring possible potholes. This one that I hit today should be coned off, it is dangerous. In the conditions I was driving cauciously, hit the pothole, damaged both nearside rims with the tyres total writeoffs.

  • Hit this and popped a tyre on 13/01/26. Pothole was completely obscured by water. I had moved closer to the centre of the road in an attempt not to go far into the obscuring puddle, but still was caught by this pothole.

  • The long pothole ends with a vertical face (by the stick) at 90 degrees to the carriageway, at a depth of 125mm, hence the damage to the tyres. Unable to upload a video showing the layout and depth. This dangerous pothole, I am told avoidable in the dry (when it can be seen) but in the wet just looks like one of many puddles encroaching on the carriageway. From your website where it was reported on the 3rd January, the only action recorded was " passed onto the relevant team for investigation"! The state of this road generally, and in particular the accident site, is very poor due to the use by numerous heavy lorries using, and damaging it, feeding the adjacent digester site.

  • No way of "talking" to the highway inspectors direct . The emergency phone number has been discontinued. Directed to the main OCC phone number. Finally got to speak with Highways Customer Services. This site has not yet been visited, the operative has raised this as a very dangerous pothole. At least it should (still flooded) be marked with cones. Six tyres now written off, hopefully no more.
