Pot hole hidden in flooded road caused by leaves within the drain

Reported via iOS in the Blocked Drain / Gully category by Nigel Hilton at 16:22, Thu 4 December 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Our section of Chapel street was flooded today as the drain is blocked by leaves within it. The adjacent pothole was hidden by the flood and invisible to cars and anyone walking on that side of the street.

Council ref: ENQ251067015

Asset ID: 290149691

  • I’m guessing nothing’s been done about this yet as this morning’s lighter rain has caused the road to start to flood again…

  • More rain, more flooding. In front of the house now, too. (Another blocked drain). Ironic really, as the pic on our MP’s leaflet about blocked drains has our house behind him…

  • Drains still not cleared so really looking forward to the next heavy rain - but all the poorly repaired potholes along our end of Chapel St. have returned so they will take some of the excess perhaps - along with encouraging our fence to rot from splashed water within them and the odd wrecked wheel on enthusiastically driven vehicles discovering them the hard way…

  • Comfortably into the New year now and the flooding's getting worse each decent rainspell. The gully at the very end of our fence, by the turning in to New Road, has joined the collection of its blocked siblings so the flooding now progresses upwards towards that junction. Whilst yet again attempting to clear drains I noticed cars dipping sharply into potholes mentioned in earlier rants dating back to the beginning of December. Still no sign of any activity to sort this all out so I think I'll copy all of my reports to you on this site to Mr van Mierlo so he's made aware too.
