Road collapse Acorn Bridge - Loss of motorcycle control.

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 17:08, Tue 25 November 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Road has collapsed on exit from Acorn Bridge (Swindon to Oxford carriageway), resulting in a large pothole forming which is actively spreading and deepening.

Last night I hit the pothole on my motorcycle whilst travelling home. I lost control of the. motorcycle, causing me to cross toward the oncoming traffic before regaining control.

This pothole forms in exactly the same spot on a regular basis and is indicative of a deeper issue within the road structure.

The pothole is at least 40mm deep and over 150mm in diameter.

I returned back in the car today and was able to capture the attached image via the car dash cam.

The pothole should be scheduled for urgent repair and marked as priority to prevent an accident from occurring.

Council ref: ENQ251065908

  • I hit this pothole tonight too. You can't see it in dark until its too late. The noise was so loud I thought something of my car was broken. I could smell fuel in my car driving just after but can't see anything but will be checking again in the morning

  • Once again, a massive pothole has developed at the same site near the Hub Logistics depot. Why can this pothole not be fixed properly. It is very dangerous to life and vehicles.
