Zebra crossing poor lighting dangerous

Reported via mobile in the Lamp Appears Dim category anonymously at 20:16, Wed 19 November 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

I regularly use this crossing walking to/from primary school with my child. Now it is dark there is a real problem with drivers not seeing pedestrians waiting at the crossing or even already in the road on the crossing. The street lighting is far too dim to enable drivers to see clearly causing a real hazard, and it really needs changing for brighter lights. Today for example on the way to collect my child I stepped into the crossing only to have a car coming from about 100m away not even slow, leaving me half way across the road waving my arms, when it did an emergency stop. On the return journey with my child I had to stand by the crossing and wave my free arm (holding my child with the other) to get traffic to see us and stop for us. It’s like this every night. About 25-50 percent of drivers seem not to see us at all, despite us wearing cycle lights as we walk. It’s a dangerous issue that needs resolving. It’s really hard to teach children about road safety anyway without crossings not being as safe as they could be.
