Check flood signage is in place for pending flood at newton Purcell under bridge

Reported via Android in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 20:00, Thursday 13 November 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There is regular flooding on the A4421 at Newton Purcell where the road dips under the old rail bridge , where HS2 construct is taking place. The finmere Bicester road is main route from Milton Keynes/Buckingham through to Bicester

The forecast is for >50mm of accumulated rain here over the next 14h by Friday evening, 14 Nov 2025

Given the high risk of flooding under this bridge, could safety precautions be made?

1) could you ensure/check that flood warning signage is in place on the approached to the bridge ? This can alert drivers to the risk and high likelihood of flooding

2) provide illumination under the bridge? perhaps HS2 construction could assist/lend a lighting unit for the evening? I hit a flood there a year ago in heavy rain and it was very dark and difficult to see the flood water. Good lighting would have helped to see the flood first

3) anticipate possible closure of this road due to flooding, maybe preposition some signage e.g. at finmere roundabout in case closure is needed tomorrow , and from Bicester direction
