The speed

Reported via mobile in the Other category anonymously at 21:52, Sunday 12 October 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council 12 hours, 40 minutes later

The whole of Charlbury need cameras to slow the traffic down as nobody takes any notice of the little 20 mile signs and if you tell them you get a whole lot of very bad abuse back. Are you going to wait till they knock some one down

Council ref: ENQ251061880

  • Thank you for your report. Regarding the issue of speeding, it's crucial to report any concerns directly to the Police. They are responsible for enforcement and can take appropriate action based on reported incidents and observations. For further information, please visit: Traffic calming and speed humps | Oxfordshire County Council.
OCC are responsible for the maintenance of the fixed cameras but have minimal say in the potential siting of any new camera as these are owned and operated by Thames Valley Police. I don’t know the exact date but it’s a long time since a new camera was installed. The criteria for a new camera will include a history of speed related injury collisions and evidence of consistent vehicle speeding.

Thames Valley Police have sole responsibility / powers to carry out speed enforcement, and any queries or concerns over speeding - including requesting enforcement - can be raised via the TVP website Home | Thames Valley Police

Our 20mph programme has largely been about changing behaviour and the mindset of drivers. If everyone changes their behaviour, then 20mph will become accepted as the new normal. We are funding sign-only changes for areas wishing to be part of the changes. Town and parish councils will be expected to fund any traffic calming measures that may be required to support the new limit in their areas. Enforcement is last resort in locations where there is a safety issue and resources will be allocated accordingly. https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/ transport-and-travel/ traffic/ safety-cameras
