Multiple flags on lampposts

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Every lamppost around the roundabout at the top of Wantage road has an England flag attached. Pls remove as soon as possible- not only is this illegal, but it is very upsetting to those town citizens who had previously been proud to live in the Wallingford community. We are a welcoming and inclusive town and don’t want to be associated with provocative and inflammatory behaviour.

  • Very patriotic and we should be proud of our flag : sad that some people are not. It would be different if it were something other than our national flag. There are also flags in the town centre.

  • I guess the flags in the town centre need to come down too, then….. This is nothing to do with patriotism or national pride. The emergence of flags seems to represent another message which opposes uk values of fairness and trust.

  • We should be proud of our flag but unfortunately it has been used as a symbol of hatred and currently it signifies something else: xenophobia and intimidation. No place for this in Oxfordshire.

  • This situation has now gone completely out of hand. The flags, including the additional rainbow and “love is love” flags that were put up over the weekend, have become a major distraction and a serious safety hazard.

    This morning, the school bus brushed a pupil from Cholsey School’s bike due to the limited view around the corner. On Monday, two cars collided after the large flags flapped into the roadway, severely reducing visibility. It is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.

    This issue has been reported multiple times over the past two weeks, yet no meaningful action has been taken. The continued inaction and lack of accountability demonstrate a worrying level of incompetence, which will be a critical factor should anything more serious happen.

    Immediate removal or relocation of these flags is essential before someone is seriously hurt.

  • Please Please take down these flags. They have their place in a Cup Final or a Royal coronation. But here they seem to say that Wallingford only welcomes British people.

  • Nothing bad, just our flag. The town looks great and the people love the flags. I say we should keep them.
