Parish Council report: flags placed without permission causing safety issues

Reported via desktop in the Other Lighting Issue category anonymously at 13:03, Fri 3 October 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Cholsey Parish Councillors have discussed the following matter and due to an unusually high number of emails from concerned residents have agreed to write to the County Council to request action.

A number of flags have been placed high up on lampposts around The Forty at the centre of the village by persons unknown. The flags have been placed on a busy double roundabout junction and present a distraction and danger to motorists and pedestrians (who include school children). Furthermore, due to concerns about the motivations behind the flags, and their location by the village green and war memorial, we are now receiving reports of residents attempting to scale the lampposts and remove the flags themselves.
