Invasive tree growing close to my property boundary
Reported via mobile in the Report a tree problem category anonymously at 11:51, Sunday 28 September 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
This is a sycamore tree that appears to be growing very quickly at a funny angle out of the bank and due to its height and proximity to my property, I’m struggling to get my building insurance renewed at a reasonable cost. I’m all in favour of trees, but this one is causing an issue which will only get worse over time. I was wondering if there would be any possibility of removing this tree and replacing it with a mature specimen of a less invasive species that wouldn’t cause an issue with my insurance. Perhaps a Rowan or Cherry for example that are good for wildlife? I’d be happy to contribute towards the cost of such work if it helped :) Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from someone soon.

I have visited the location and inspected the tree. At this stage it would be a contravention of our Tree Policy to remove the tree "https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/environment-and-planning/energy-and-climate-change/tree-policy-oxfordshire" which states that
"Policy 10
To protect the Councils’ interests and process claims efficiently, the Council will manage and process alleged subsidence claims against OCC trees in accordance with the Joint Mitigation Protocol."
Where a tree is suspected to be involved in subsidence to a property this can be reported through this process https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/ transport-and-travel/ street-maintenance-z/ compensation
Thank you for your enquiry.
