Damage to a grid over an OCC pit in the Goggs Watlington

Reported via desktop in the Damaged Gully or Catchpit Ironwork category by Tim Horton at 17:17, Thu 17 July 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There was damage to a pit that was created in the 1990s for the benefit of OCC in order to keep its highways drainage manageable. The grid over the pit is damaged and continues to affect the efficiency of movement in a narrow cul-de-sac. The Highways Authority placed barriers around this grid some year ago . The HA has indicated an intention to repair/replace but no action has been taken

  • Barriers are continuously knocked over, which is making it even more difficult to manoeuvre down the road and into driveways. They are currently in pile after being knocked over twice in short succession.

  • I understand that a highway engineer has been in attendance at the site and that is a good sign of some treatment after much more than a year. Barriers can only just be avoided by passing vehicles but have continued to restrict the scope of valued parking space. I hope that OCC can now place this in a high category for treatment. The 'flood season' starts shortly and we need all in order so as to monitor water levels and blockages as well as respond as might again be necessary.

  • The barriers have all been knocked down and the ironwork is exposed with dangerous edges we have had 1 personal injury and 1 punctured tyre amongst the residents now. This is an area of flooding and as already stated by other neighbours in this thread not maintaining this gully cover will create larger flood management issues for the council

  • Two yellow covers are still over a grid that has received no attention and this despite officers epressing agreement that the repair is both overdue and a priority. Can we be give assurance that there is goodwil through work being done ? - the problem is nearing its seond anniversary
