Reported pot hole and it’s repair
Reported via mobile in the Roads and Carriageways category by Roger Humphries at 17:07, Thursday 24 April 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
I reported two particularly dangerous pot holes and a general comment on the appalling condition of the carriageway and pavements of Priory Road on 25th March last. Subsequent to my report a white line was painted around one of the two adjacent potholes in need of repair. Today two crews in two vehicles turned up and filled one hole. As can be seen from my photo taken barely five minutes of crew’s departure the filling is BROWN! The hole has been filled with some sort of waste material, it has not been compacted and the edges are unsealed. As I was preparing to take the photograph a car drove over the “repair” leaving an tyre’s width’s indentation and displacing the filling as it passed over. I would not feel so ill disposed towards those managers and contractors responsible, if this was an isolated incident, but that’s far from the case. Not one single repair to the carriageway in Church Street and Priory Road undertaken by the Highways department in the past ten years has survived more than three months. This is a totally inadequate repair badly executed and all at the expense of we, the council tax payers. The way the highways department sees fit to manage both their work and their contractors falls way below any acceptable standard for this type of work . Perhaps all those perspective and existing councilors standing for election in seven days time should take heed. So, please, could we see the immediate appearance of a well managed and experienced gang of road repairers to replace this filling and make good this hole and the adjacent potholes, to provide a 3 meter X 50cm strip of safe, long lasting, and serviceable carriageway?
