Cycling wands causing congestion and delaying public transport

Reported via iOS in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 06:48, Wednesday 2 April 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The recently installed cycling wands on Garsington Road have created a bottleneck for traffic and causing very significant congestion.

As just one example, they caused a tailback of traffic for half a mile through the Oxford Business Park at 5pm on the evening of 1st April in which the Oxford Business Park Company 500 service was caught up for more then 20 minutes.

Can they please be removed as soon as possible?

  • These new bollards are dangerous for cyclists. When I'm on my bicycle turning right from Hollow Way on Garsington Road these bollards force me into the path of traffic that is also turning right. The cars nearly run me over. I suggest a solution is to remove the bus stop and then the bollards are not needed. As the bollards are due to the bus stop in the way, why not remove the bus stop at this location? There is NO NEED for a bus stop here because there is a bus stop just around the corner for buses going to Cowley Centre and there is a bus stop immediately past the next junction for buses going to Cowley Road. This bus stop outside the primary school is not necessary.
