Multiple potholes causing traffic to swerve to avoid

Reported via iOS in the Pothole category anonymously at 22:01, Tuesday 25 March 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Opening new report (and borrowing previous persons text, thanks) as previous one closed - allegedly no longer a problem: just drive the section to see for yourselves!! There are multiple potholes and a generally poor surface on the A424, both uphill and downhill . It’s impossible to stop to take photographs due to the amount of traffic. But the attached, taken lower down and nearer the top of the hill (when travelling towards Stow), show the general state of the surface. The oblique angle of the shots tends to smooth the view and show the potholes as less severe than they actually are. The surface has been progressively deteriorating for months.

  • Attached are some photos (taken by passenger before police start to worry) of the sate of the road.

The condition is poor and worsening. Liable for damage to tyres/vehicles, and cars swerving on a dangerous narrow lane. Potential for accident is high. There is no route along this stretch without hitting potholes now. Whichever side of the lane you drive you hit them.

It is twice now Oxfordshire CC have resolved this road as fixed which is a complete lie.

  • To add, the apparent answer from Oxfordshire CC saying the area had been check and fixed.

Unless the workers were lost or it was dark and they had no torch it is clear this area is not fixed!

  • This has still not been dealt with and must be a priority. It won't be long before there is a serious accident along this stretch of road because drivers are swerving to try to avoid the damaged road surface and potholes.
