Multiple potholes in North Street, Aston
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category by Russell Avis at 16:26, Friday 21 March 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
This was reported previously and initially deemed not to meet the fix criteria. This was reported/assessed again as several of the potholes had grown alarmingly in area and depth, making it very dangerous and requiring drivers to swerve along the road. Some of the holes were recently marked for fixing and a team appeared this week to do so. However, although they did fill a handful of the worst holes, there are some glaring issues. First, entering Aston from Witney, at the first bend by the first (newer) houses, there is a large pothole still not fixed as it was not marked, despite it clearly being a hazard and on a bend necessitating crossing the lane. Additionally, it beggars belief that the team completely ignored some potholes and badly broken road just a couple of feet from those marked for repair. There is no doubt the team will need to come out again in the very near future to address these ones. This is grossly inefficient, and must cost more to keep sending the squad to fix a handful in the same area. Surely common sense says you should address all of the issues in one small area. There is currently a report (agreed for fixing) just the other side of Aston on the bend at Aston ditch, where again, several dangerous large holes just past the bend and bridge have not been marked, and others have also reported that issue. All of these issues are within an area of just 400 yards or so. Surely it makes more sense to send a team once to fix the lot. This would be more economic and efficient.
