Severe flooding on our property due to blocked drains

Reported via desktop in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 12:17, Wednesday 26 February 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

I am once again reporting that there is bad flooding on Hill Road in Chinnor which has a DIRECT IMPACT ON OUR PROPERTY - 1A Hill Road, Chinnor, ox39 4pr and to ask for your help. The last remaining working drain on Hill Road, just after the crossing to the Steam Railway Carpark, is blocked again and has caused flooding on the road (I think there are a further 5 permanently blocked drains on this small stretch of road). I have been out to try and unblock it but the silt and mud is just too thick.

As cars drive through the water it is AGAIN rushing down the pavement and all down our drive, past our front door like a river, into our garden, flooding underneath our caravan, through our garage, into our summer house. The garden is left with silt and mud, leaves, sticks, fuel debris and dangerous bits of cars that have broken off as they drive through the flood, not only causing damage to our property but making the garden UNSAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND DOG.

This has been reported repeatedly to the highways department and fixmystreet.com but, apart from a lorry once coming and clearing leaves from the top of the drain, for 10 minutes (which we do daily ourselves) NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. On a recent emergency call to Highways we were advised that somebody would come and take a look at the damage it was causing within 24 hours but nobody turned up. I am unable to upload video evidence but can provide them on request.

It is worth highlighting that this is a regular occurance, perhaps weekly at the moment. We take all possible measures we can to help ourselves.
