Investigating
Deep pothole and exposed steel expansion joint
Reported via mobile in the Pothole category anonymously at 20:02, Tuesday 4 February 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
On 1 January 2025, my vehicle sustained severe and catastrophic damage to the front right suspension after striking a concealed and dangerously deep pothole, located adjacent to an exposed bridge steel expansion joint. This positioning presents a severe risk of direct impact with perpendicular steel, significantly exacerbating the danger to road users. Approximately two weeks later, a repair crew presumably associated with Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) carried out a wholly inadequate attempt at repair by merely placing loose tarmac debris into the pothole, akin to assembling a jigsaw puzzle. This method is entirely unacceptable as a permanent solution, and the ongoing presence of this hazardous defect poses a serious risk of substantial vehicle damage and potential personal injury to other road users.
