Non permanent traffic light makes no sense

Reported via desktop in the Other category anonymously at 12:58, Fri 13 December 2024

Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There is a non permanent traffic light replacing the permanent one on the bridge coming from the city centre on the left hand side on Botley Road (before the left turn into Ferry Hinksey Road). The reason for this is supposed to be work being done on the other side of the road behind the bridge. But there is actually no work being done there. There are some gates on the street which seem to indicate that there is a hole or some digging going on, but when you look properly you see that there is no reason for this as the street is fine and no digging or work being done. When the gates would be removed , the non permanent traffic lights could also be removed and normal traffic could be taken up again. As I reported twice before this non permanent traffic light when coming from the city centre is dangerous for cyclists and it would really help if this could be removed. I guess you will just wait until Botley Road opens up again and then tell me that it is fixed. I had this recently with a non permanent traffic light problem on Marston Road. It took 5 month for fixmystreet to react and by this time the road works had obviously finished and the non permanent traffic light which made problems removed.

  • I reported this issue now lots of times (seems that they remove the report after a certain time so that you have to report it again). But nobody seems to do anything even though they tell me that they are investigating. I don't think that anyone does any investigating. If someone could just remove the remnants of the long finished work on one side of the road, the non permanent traffic light could be removed and the permanent one could be put in service again. It would be great if someone could just be send there to take a look at it.

  • Why is this still a temporary light? The traffic down the Botley Road is horrendous and the traffic would flow much better if the lights were reinstated. The road closed signs can easily go on the paved area between the road and the footpath by the bridge. It is very clear you can't drive any further but there are still many people who need to access this area before the road is closed. Some mornings it can take me 20 minutes to get to the West Oxford Community Centre from MacDonalds for a weekly appointment I have that starts at 10am, when traffic should have eased. Each week I look and cannot see logic for the temporary lights.

  • Most of all there is no reason for this at all, as there are not really road works going on where the signs are. It seems more that they just forgot about the signs and didn't remove them after finishing. It also seemingly makes no sense in contacting fix my street about this, as they don't react to the report and don't investigate anything in this matter. We will probably have to wait until August 2026 (if that date works out) for this to be fixed. Then I will probably get a proud answer from fix my street that this is now fixed.
