We need Keep Clear signage on our drop of layby redone

Reported via desktop anonymously at 10:10, Fri 29 November 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later

We are day service for adults with disabilities and older people, often with wheelchairs and walking aids, so have several drop kerbs situated on layby outside building. We are constantly having to move people from drop off and pick layby, as they are parking there. We have a car park further up, but no, the public are blocking and causing issues, with disabled users of building. Often having to load on road, and staff having to try and navigate getting people we are supporting on and off vehicles. Is there any possibility of having marking on the layby to represent no parking at any times, and that is a drop of pick up zone only. This is a constant headache and causing issues, with us trying to provide a service to vulnerable users.

    To introduce new Traffic Restrictions....

To introduce any restriction on traffic, for example, speed limits, parking restrictions, prohibition of movements, we need to promote a Traffic Regulation Order.

This is a process whereby an Order is drafted by our Legal Department, describing the proposed restriction. This will be advertised during a formal consultation process and comments invited. If no objections are received, the Order can be brought into operation with lining and signs on the ground. If there are objections, these will be reported at the appropriate Committee where a decision will be made taking into account levels of support and objections.

The cost for this is currently 3,840.00 to cover legal work, consultation and associated procedural / administrative functions. On top is the cost of lining and signing work, which can in many situations be extensive and expensive. The County has no resources for this work as a County scheme but is able to pursue if external funding is made available. We work this way with local Towns and Parishes who wish to promote such restrictions. The onus is on them to propose a scheme which suits their local needs and then we can act in an advisory capacity and carry out the required legal aspects.

All this can take anywhere from 6 month to a year. You may wish to take this up with your local Parish or Town Council who may be aware of other similar requests.
