Extensive flooding 23 Sept, 9 Oct, 25 Nov, 27 Nov

Reported via desktop in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 01:09, Fri 29 November 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The bank of the brook in the location shown has in the past been dug away and restored with sandbags. The sandbags are not high enough and this creates a low breach point. The brook overflows onto the road very regularly after heavy rain (see photo). The water travels down the road for 1/2 mile west eventually becoming 8" deep on the Towersey road. The brook is also in poor condition with trees fallen in and general debris. I think another layer of sandbags and clear some of the debris at that point would solve the problem. The repeated overflow carries debris into all the road drains and blocks gulleys. Significant surface water remains days after a flood.

  • Very bad recurrence 27-1-25. (there have been other instances as well in the interim). B4445 flooded from the point where the brook bank has been breached.

  • This is midday 26 Feb 25 after a couple of hours of rain. The brook continues to flow unabated onto the road (which itself then becomes the de facto brook for the half a mile NW to Towersey turn). 5 months after this report was raised (there were many before), no progress in clearing the brook downstream of this point in order to give it more capacity. Dare I say another example of broken Britain.

  • The road continues to get flooded after even moderate rain. The brook is blocked with fallen trees at least at the point indicated. Even after extended dry spells the water in the brook is only inches below the bank. The brook is just not functioning anymore as drainage. The road is becoming the new brook and, as well as creating a 1/2 mile flood, is washing mud and debris into the road. This is urgent now. Something needs to be done quickly. If the council is not responsible then they should serve notice on whoever is responsible. There have been at least 9 flooding events this winter and they are gaining in frequency. Please take action.

  • This road is yet again badly flooded and practically impassable in a small car, when is the council going to rectify this problem.
