Thank you for bringing the drainage issue at Kiln Road to our attention. We appreciate your proactive approach in helping us maintain the quality of our highways.
As the issue was reported after the previous severe weather event, which has now passed, we are pleased to confirm that the Parish or Town of Sonning Common is scheduled for gully emptying during the Fourth quarter of this financial year. All highway surface water assets in the area are planned to be thoroughly cleansed within this timeframe. Work to clean and empty every highway drainage gully in Oxfordshire this year, and every year going forward, is now under way.
Our gully emptying programme is carefully planned to use a range of key factors to prioritise locations throughout the year. This ensures our resources are directed where they are most needed and can have the greatest impact.
The prioritisation process considers:
Areas with a known history of property or frequent carriageway flooding.
Locations with a high volume of public drainage reports.
The condition and maintenance history of highway surface water assets. To support this, we use an internal asset management system called Kaarbontech, which maintains a detailed record of all historic maintenance activity. This helps us identify gullies and associated infrastructure that have not been serviced for some time, ensuring no part of the network is overlooked.
This data-led approach enables us to move beyond reactive maintenance and adopt a more proactive, risk-based strategy. It enhances network resilience and reduces the likelihood of flooding, particularly in known hotspot areas.
Please note that the proposed schedule may be subject to change due to severe weather or resource availability.
Your report has now been closed, and we remain committed to ensuring that the necessary actions are taken in a timely manner.
