Blocked drains on road and water running from road into front garden

Reported via mobile in the Property Flooding category anonymously at 09:44, Wed 27 November 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Please see below my mail to Bloxham Parish Council- they have asked me to send it to you as well via this link.

~~

Whilst we recognise many people and properties have suffered much worse than us from Sunday’s floods, we wanted the Council to be aware that we were impacted too so that the fullest picture may be seen.

We live at 87 Courtington Lane and often face ‘run-off’ from the field behinds our house (Hobb Hill). Any impact is normally restricted to our rear garden.

We also regularly suffer from run off from the road itself which then pools across our front lawn. This is due to blocked drains (the one outside of our house was still blocked on Monday afternoon and I couldn’t shift the mud which was only about 10cm below the grid) and the road itself now being higher than many drives on the road .

On Sunday afternoon the run-off from the field ran to the front of the house to be be met with water from the road. This covered the front garden and drive and about 5cm came into our garage.

All our garage contents have had to be removed and some damage has occurred. It is still drying out.

Looking down the road at least 3 of the 6 nearest houses all had garages being emptied yesterday. Our next door neighbour at 85 brought a commercial pump on Sunday afternoon to try to clear their front garden into the road but were defeated by the water simply coming back from the road.

We have lived here for 15 years, and whilst recognising Sunday’s deluge was very extreme, what is increasingly concerning is the run-off from the road. This has been reported by several neighbours over many years, including well before we moved here, yet it is now worsening.
