Poorly lit central reservation in crossing area

Reported via mobile in the Traffic Signs category anonymously at 13:55, Tue 5 November 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

This crossing with central reservation is poorly lit and presents a hazard to drivers at night. The yellow reflective coating on the bollards is very poor. with a wide section of road to the left of the crossing (for buses) and the regular lane to the right, it is hard to discern that there is a crossing area with metal bar fencing around it that’s essentially in the middle of the road.

Resubmitted as this is still an issue.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. The works along this section of the A420 were completed under a S278 Agreement. As part of this process, a street lighting design was produced and approved by OCC’s Street Lighting Team. This design was assessed to ensure the road meets the required illumination levels. After the installation of the columns, OCC Street Lighting Team visited site to inspect the lighting, and all was satisfactory.

An independent Road Safey Audit Stage 3 was undertaken on completion of the highway works. This audit evaluates the scheme in operation, both during daylight hours and hours of darkness, to identify any hazards specific to night operation. Everything picked up in the audit was addressed and remediated accordingly.

We have noted your concern regarding the bollard. We will contact the relevant department to ensure this bollard is replaced in due course to ensure that it is reflective and more conspicuous to oncoming motor vehicles.
