Grossly overgrown hedge

Reported via desktop in the Footways and Pavement damage category by Mr Patrick Lonergan at 17:57, Saturday 5 October 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The hedge is at the side of 81 Welford Gardens and, obviously, is worse now then when previously reported. As the photo shows, the hedge is almost completely blocking the pavement!

Council ref: ENQ241019604

  • Thank you for your enquiry, we have investigated and the hedge in question is the responsibility of Sovereign Housing. We have therefore forwarded the details to them and will chase up as required, if there is no action with in an agreed period then OCC will make arrangement for the hedge to be cut back

  • Photographed yesterday. Still no action by Sovereign Housing. Please can you chase them since this is urgent. Pedestrians have to either walk on the muddy grass (a slipping hazard) - or walk in the road if they have pushchairs or wheelchairs. Near a road junction, this is an accident waiting to happen.

Sovereign Housing should have trimming this hedge on their annual maintenance schedule. It has been overgrown before.

  • Thank you for your report. Landowners and occupiers are responsible for maintaining any boundary features on their property that adjoin public highways and affect highway safety. In this case, the highway appears to be impacted, so we will contact the land/property owner. If necessary, further action will be taken.
