Mirror needed to enable safe access onto road

Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 16:12, Thursday 26 September 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 7 minutes later

This request was part of a previous report but it has been closed without any mirror being put in situ. Due to the parking on the verge (which is Highways land) we need a mirror placed opposite the drive to enable us to see oncoming traffic from the north. It is currently extremely dangerous exiting both our property and next doors and impossible to see any approaching vehicle if it is closer than The Stile at the times multiple cars are parked between our property and The Stile. Although this has been happening for some years (and reported ) it is getting worse and more dangerous as more residents at the lower end of New Street park in this way.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. However Oxfordshire County Council do not provide or support the use of road mirrors on the highway. The image they provide can be misleading in terms of vehicle speed and distance giving drivers a false sense of security, potentially leading to vehicles emerging injudiciously. They also are prone to vandalism, fogging in poor atmospheric conditions and glare from the sun or car headlights.
