Large buddleia obscuring oncoming traffic

Reported via desktop anonymously at 17:37, Saturday 21 September 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council 1 minute later

This buddleia, growing in the road beside the island, is obscuring view of traffic coming round the roundabout, and is a potential dangerous hazard. It has been increasing in size throughout the year and will continue to grow and become thicker if not removed quickly.

  • The buddleia is still exactly in the position shown on the map, on the Peachcroft roundabout, Abingdon where Dunmore Road joins the roundabout. It is growing on the edge of the island there. It is impossible to miss it.

  • Thank you for your report. Landowners and occupiers are legally obligated to properly maintain vegetation on their property that is next to the public highway. If the vegetation affects the safety of highway users, it becomes their responsibility. However, in this instance, since the highway was not obstructed, there may not be sufficient cause to take further action at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation during statutory inspections.
