Three strips of potholes

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 14:26, Fri 6 September 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

As previously reported by me and Cllr Freddie van Mierlo, the B4009 westbound going downhill between the junctions for Brightwell Baldwin and Chalgrove has three strips of dangerous potholes causing traffic to move into the line of oncoming traffic. Impossible to take photos safely.

  • This entire section of westbound carriageway of The Sands, from the Eyre's Lane junction and all the way down the hill (where the trees line the road on either side) is riddled with potholes and areas of failed road surface all along the edge of the carriageway. It's a narrow section of road and the only way to avoid this damaged stretch is to drive on the opposite side of the road (in the path of oncoming traffic, on a bend with poor visibility). This has been reported a number of times over the past few years, but because it's along the edge of the road, we keep being told that it doesn't warrant repair. This section is horrendous to drive over, requires drivers to veer dangerously into the path of oncoming traffic for a significant distance in order to avoid the holes, and would be lethal for any cyclist trying to navigate it. You can see the damaged tarmac all the way along this section in google street view from 2019 - it is considerably worse now after five years without repair. As a previous poster has mentioned, it is impossible to take photos of it due to being on a narrow stretch of 50mph road without a pavement. On behalf of all the regular users of this stretch of road, please could this be sorted out as a priority, before any more vehicles are damaged, wing mirrors smashed as cars pass to closely trying to avoid the holes, or any cyclists are injured. Thank you in advance.
