The timing of the traffic lights on Botley Road/Ferry Hinksey Road is up-the-creek causing traffic to build up on the Botley Road.

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
We need to get to our offices in Kings Meadow, Ferry Hinksey Road OX2 0DP and these traffic light timings are causing us long delays.

This is still an issue and getting worse. The queue is all the way back to McDonalds. The sequence seems to be 15 seconds green, 65 seconds red.

The lights seem to be letting many cars through which are coming out of the city (from Osney direction), but only a few going into the and to Osney Mead (it took me 35 mins from Seacourt this morning). At the other end of the day, they only let a few off of Osney Mead, causing delays down Ferry Hinksey Road. It needs manual operation or a change to the automatic.

This was an issue even at 09:45 this morning. Traffic heading towards the city centre was queued back to Macdonalds again. In the 18 months since the Botley Road was closed, this has not been an issue until 2 weeks ago...what changed? The majority of traffic is trying to get down Ferry Hinksey Road in the morning and back out in the evenings; can the phasing not reflect this? Also, given how few cars turn from Ferry Hinksey Road towards the City Centre, could the core flow allow traffic into and out of FHR simultaneously (with signage to 'give way' if you do want to turn from FHR towards the city centre?). This would alleviate the queues immediately. Just a thought.

For over three months, the traffic signal on Botley Road has caused severe disruptions, creating daily chaos and frustration for commuters. When the signal was turned off for two days recently, traffic flowed freely without congestion. This clearly demonstrates that the signal, as it currently operates, is not only ineffective but actively worsening the situation.
The delays caused by this signal are draining productivity, wasting hundreds of hours every week, and significantly impacting residents’ quality of life. This is a matter of urgency—people’s time and well-being are at stake. Ignoring this issue any longer is unacceptable.
If the signal is deemed essential, I strongly urge the council to take immediate corrective action. Assigning an officer to manually control traffic during peak hours would be a practical interim solution to prevent further suffering. However, a full review of the signal’s necessity and efficiency is essential.
I trust the council will prioritize this issue and take swift, decisive action.

I strongly support the above comments by Nafiz Chowdury. The lack of working signals yesterday (Monday 02/12) and the resulting free-flowing traffic fundamentally proves that the lights are not required. It was so disappointing to see them back in operation today, and to have to queue from near the Seacourt lights to get down Ferry Hinksey Road. The unnecessary environmental pollution is another factor. I see no reason why it is still necessary to place a block across half the road at the Ferry Hinksey lights; the required 'road closed' signage does not need to block the highway. Please come and see for yourself the problems you are causing at around 08:45 each morning.

I completely agree with all the comments. Businesses as well as residents located in Ferry Hinksey Road and Kings Meadow have been severely impacted by the continued disruption of timing of the lights on the Botley Road junction with Ferry Hinksey Road. It is having a huge impact on the well being of all concerned. 30 mins to travel half a mile! Not to mention pollution from all the cars sat in traffic. Where are all the cars going past the road closure on the Botley Road towards the station??? I don't believe this is residents access only, the amount of traffic flow through to the station has increased dramatically both ways since this is no longer physically manned. Something needs to be done.
