Flooding

Reported via mobile in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 11:34, Sat 24 August 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

Excessive flooding in road every time it rains. No drains in road. Clay soil has compacted between bricks so the water doesn’t drain away.

Council ref: ENQ241014944

  • This happens every time there's rainfall now - not just during excessive rain. The water has nowhere to drain as the 'porous' road is completely full of clay-soil that has amounted over the years. Every time a car drives through the flooded water, the water rides up to our driveway and garden. This problem is worsening and we're desperate for a fix.

  • Update: Today's rainfall is now causing flooding higher than the kerb, and people (esp elderly/wheelchair-users in the next-door apartment block) can't get past. Please can we get some help!

  • Thank you for your report. Both our Operations Team and Schemes Team are working on a resolution for this issue on Buttercross Lane. Due to the lack of positive drainage and porous brickwork this may require a substantial amount of work to rectify. This will be done as soon as possible and we appreciate your patience. Once we have more information we will update you further. Thank you.

  • Thanks for your update on 30th September for residents.

The problem is persistent and the more this happens the greater the movement on the block paving as the substrate moves.

Can we have a progress report for residents please.

  • With the freezing temperatures, the flooded road has now frozen and has become dangerous to drivers and pedestrians crossing the road. A delivery driver just told me how treacherous and slippy it is. Please can something be done to fix this problem asap.

  • This is an ongoing problem which worsens every time it rains. Road is caked in slippery clay when flooding subsides. There had been no update since September when the Council said ‘this (work) will be done as soon as possible’ - please provide residents with a plan of action and an idea of when works will start.
