Lethal road crossing

Reported via desktop in the Grass category by Adrian Pickett at 12:16, Saturday 17 August 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

The grass verge near the bus stop on the Swindon side of the A420 is overgrown. As a consequence there is a blind spot where it is not possible for pedestrians to see oncoming cars until they are in the middle of the road or the cars to see the pedestrians. This blind spot is 40 m from the crossing point. With cars travelling at 50 mph or more the stopping distance is 53m, about 10 m past any pedestrians in the road. There are over 20,000 vehicles a week travelling on this stretch of the A420 making it a matter of time before someone is injured or killed. This issue happens every year from May onwards. The solutions are either to cut the grass or reduce the speed limit on this stretch of road.
