Two failing manhole covers on Bloxham Road

Reported via desktop in the Manhole category anonymously at 17:36, Tuesday 13 August 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

There are two failing manhole covers on the Bloxham Road (A361) on the west bound carriageway close to the traffic light junction with the Oxford road in Banbury town.

One is opposite the junction with Beargarden road, about 1.5m from the westbound kerb line; the other is approximately opposite number 18 Bloxham road, again about 1.5 m from the westbound kerb line (just east of the "A361 Chipping Norton 13, Burford 23" road sign in the westbound verge as can be seen on the attached photo).

The frames have sunk slightly and the lids seem to be very insecure. Every time a vehicle passes over them there is a loud bang. This means the residents get a double bang all day and night as vehicles pass.

These manholes are likely to fail and potentially cause a serious accident. As well as that the noise is causing a serious nuisance to the residents in the area.

It has been going on now for many weeks and is causing distress to ourselves and our neighbours.
