Thank you for your enquiry regarding the footway. The footway works conducted are part of the countywide Footway Slurry programme of works, treating 100,000m2 of footways across Oxfordshire.
Slurry seal is used on footways before the surface deteriorates to the stage where expensive major patching and/or reconstruction is required to prolong the life of the footway. The aim is to restore the surface on footways and cycleways etc. to seal the surface preventing ingress of water into the pavement structure thereby helping to minimise pothole formation or further deterioration. The slurry, like all surface treatments, follow the existing contours of the footway and will not significantly improve areas of undulation. This process can extend the life of a footway on average between 8 and 12 years before further major work is likely to be necessary. Unfortunately, weeds in footways may continue to be a problem generally and may return as routine weed killing has not been undertaken by OCC for many years.
