Sinkhole in the middle of the road in The Hamlet

Reported via mobile in the Pothole category anonymously at 23:33, Friday 2 August 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

This was reported 12 months ago. The sinkhole is now opening up (opening the size of a dinner plate.) it looks to be nearly 1 metre in depth and 1 metre across inside. It has been surrounded by a 1m square plastic barricade for months which people have been driving round but no one has come to fix it. The small potholes in the road were filled in last week but not the sinkhole. This is going to result in a serious incident soon. The plastic barricade is inadequate for the size of the sinkhole.

  • Photos taken 3rd August to show that the sinkhole is in the road. 2nd photo shows foot and cones to give an idea of the size of the opening and the 3rd photo shows that it’s deep. It spreads out quite wide beneath the surface.

This is highly dangerous. Please could it be fixed urgently.

There is also a concern this might not be the only one and there might be wider problems along the road that we can’t see. Please could this also be investigated.
