Surface water from opposite side of A417 being diverted to Prospect Road

Reported via mobile in the Blocked Drain / Gully category by Karen Spackman at 17:13, Thu 1 August 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

The recent works at the junction of the Lynchway and the A417 have successfully stopped the water crossing the A417 and then flowing to Prospect Road. However due to the drains from the road to Alden Farm and the culverts along the A417 between High Street and Stream Road being blocked and inadequate water is still flowing into Prospect Road and the first few properties fronting Prosoect Road. There is also a flow of water from the other direction, from Chilton Road and down the hill on the A417 which flows past the drains in this section of the road, into Prospect Road.

One of the 3 routes water takes to converge on Prospect Road has currently been solved. The other 2 have not.

This issue has recently been closed off as it was incorrectly deemed to be a winter drainage issue.

  • I have not cleared the culverts on the A417 as it is too dangerous with the volume of speeding traffic.

Debris blocking the entrances to 3 of the culverts on Prospect Road has been moved by neighbours but there is debris on A417 from Prospect Road to High Street, including the recently improved system in place at the top of Stream Road which is now blocked, and on Prospect Road where garages, sheds, drives, paths and vegetable garden were flooded.

  • 10th September 2024 Once again flood water from The Holloway, The Lynchway and Chilton Road have caused flooding.

As suspected, the recent works at the bottom of The Lynchway were not sufficient to cope with the water as it flowed over the top of the hump.

The water was flowing straight by the culverts on the A417 that I had reported as blocked.

Water from The Holloway is not draining into the gulleys by Deveens Firs and this water then converges on Hunters Moon and Wattle Cottage

I have a video but cannot upload it here. Could you please email me and I will send it .
