Large overgrown hedge in front of property boundary wall.

Reported via desktop in the Hedges category anonymously at 12:28, Tue 23 July 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 7 minutes later

The hedge is very overgrown, height and width and is in front of the house wall. The deeds to the property dated 1981 show that this was not assigned to the house but on speaking with council it now appears it belongs to no one and will not be cut by council meaning owner has to cut but not down to her to keep cutting. This has been ongoing for years now and in the past the council HAVE cut it and kept it trimmed

  • Thank you for your report. Landowners and occupiers are legally obligated to properly maintain vegetation on their property that is next to the public highway. If the vegetation affects the safety of highway users, it becomes their responsibility. However, in this instance, since the highway was not obstructed, there may not be sufficient cause to take further action at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation during statutory inspections.
