This concerns a hole / gully outside 252 and 254 Thorney Leys. It is currently covered by a loose manhole cover with traffic cones on top to prevent people from removing the cover and climbing in, as happened earlier this summer. It is 140cm deep and caused a person considerable injury some years ago when he fell in; since then we have shored it up, but it still constitutes a serious hazard. The hole seems to serve no purpose whatsoever, and the most effective course of action would surely be to fill it in! We think that it must have been dug when the Thorney Leys estate was built in the mid-1980s.
