Feedback on your response to flooding on road

Reported via desktop in the Flooding on Road category anonymously at 21:44, Fri 28 June 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later

You have informed me that your investigation is complete and that you will not be taking action to stop the road from flooding because it only happens in heavy rain when pipes cannot cope with the flow. You have also said that you will no longer accept notifications of flooding during winter months - this seems unacceptable to me. Please would you at least try clearing the gullies all along Kennylands Road before deciding that you do not want to hear about this any more.

  • There has been an ongoing problem with the road flooding outside 85 Kennylands Road/ The Squirrels for many months. It may be that the drains are blocked/ gulleys have not been cleared adequately. I also believe this started when the new houses started to be built on Kennylands Place so I suspect that the previously well functioning drainage of the area has been disrupted and it may be that the sewers/ drainage system have not been upgraded sufficiently to cope with the extra run off from a field having been built on as well as as the additional sewerage requirements resulting from new housing. Please find a long term solution to this as the problem has occured repeatedly and you have been notified repeatedly. Some residents in this part of Kennylands Road do not use the internet and do not have the ability to upload photos to the site to continue to raise the profile of this problem. If the problem continues to be ongoing we will be making a complaint. You can see from the 3rd photo how water from the road flooding has entered into the grounds of our property.

  • Thank you for your report. Our gully cleansing contractor has cleaned the gullies and jetted the carrier pipes on 13/09/2024. There is maintenance work scheduled for the drainage ditch running alongside 55 Kennylands, which should help alleviate water running down Kennylands Road.
