Completely blocked drain

This drain is completely blocked with mud and silt and causes floods that cover the whole width of the road whenever it rains.

It hasn't been cleared for 7yrs and has been reported numerous times, but is often ignored during the winter, I got this email explaining:

"...we have decided to close down reports relating to drainage matters during the winter months as after investigating the data it was apparent that many of the fixmystreet reports/issues were caused by the sheer volume of rainwater that fell meaning that the drainage system was unable to cope..."

These pictures (during the dry) prove that it is not the volume of water that's the problem.

  • Council has been dodging this issue for years as you say. little point complaining at this stage.

    Taxes go up, services get quietly cut and who pays the price? you and I with damaged property.

  • Well, persistence has paid off and this drain has been cleared. In fact, all drains in the village have been cleared or are scheduled to be over the coming weekends.

  • Thank you for your report. Our gully cleansing contractor has cleaned and jetted the whole of Long Wittenham 29/09/2024
