Overgrown Hedges
Reported via mobile in the Hedges category anonymously at 16:12, Sun 23 June 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later
The hedges along Bullockspits Lane OX13 (Southmoor) is overhanging into the road, this means there is no safe space for pedestrians to walk. My seven year old daughter was stung by stinging nettles to allow a vehicle to pass the other day. This is really dangerous for pedestrians of all ages but a number of children walk up this road to school on a daily basis. Can you please advise when this can be attended to as a matter of urgency.

As can be seen by the attached photo the hedges are encroaching on Bullockspits Lane leaving no room for pedestrian walkways, the hedges are also nettles causing pedestrians being stung if trying to get safely out of the way of a car.

Thank you for your report. Landowners and occupiers are legally obligated to properly maintain vegetation on their property that is next to the public highway. If the vegetation affects the safety of highway users, it becomes their responsibility. However, in this instance, since the highway was not obstructed, there may not be sufficient cause to take further action at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation during statutory inspections.
