Seizure of public land
Reported via mobile anonymously at 09:59, Sunday 23 June 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later
37 Newland Mill first arranged for trees lining OCC Registered Footpath 410_5_10 to be felled, leaving a huge gap along that well-used path between Newland and Newland Mill. Now found that the long-established rear fence has been demolished and replaced with one that increases the private space at the expense of the public domain. This will create a very dangerous precedent unless successfully challenged.

Please see attached screengrab: there appear to be TWO issues in this location which require checking. IE that the new house owner: - felled trees OUTSIDE of his rear property boundary, and within the publicly-owned land forming part of the Registered Footpath ... - THEN demolished their rear boundary and built a new fence further out in to the public Registered footpath - so as to increase the size of their private back-garden. A cynically calculated "land-grab" ? and very dangerous precedent unless challenged by the Authorities.

Thank you for your report. This has been investigated and the trees/hedges alongside this footpath form old boundaries and as such, are the responsibility of the adjacent landowner. The fence line has been installed in line with the old boundary and corroborates with Land Registry documents. We do not believe that an encroachment has taken place and will not be taking this matter any further.
