Sunken manhole

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later

On A417 Heading towards Faringdon, a manhole has sunk. It has the potential to cause a lot of damage when hitting it, as it’s quite deep.

  • Needs fixing urgently. It’s unavoidable and if a cyclist hit it and was being followed by an Earthline truck it would be a catastrophe.

  • The location of this sunken manhole is immediately after the left turn into the drive/track of Garlands Farm on A417 heading to Faringdon

  • The road to the left of the sunken drain cover (the deep end) is now breaking up now. People are crossing into the other lane now to avoid itt but its on a blind bend thanks to the overgrown hedges. There could be a massive Road traffic incident here.

  • Still not fixed. Deep subsidence. Cars crunch alarmingly with potential for serious damage (cannot easily be avoided). Potentially fatal chasm for cyclists and motorbikers.

  • This is extremely dangerous. This is going to cause a fatal accident if not fixed. A cyclist or motorbike will crash if they hit this. Numerous of motorist should claim for any damage to their cars. This was reported back in June, how has it not been fixed yet? Crazy.

  • Can't understand why this has not been fixed. There is now an audit trail of alerting OCC, including their responses. If (hopefully not when) someone is injured or vehicles damaged then we know who to blame and where to go for £££ costs etc...

  • Still not fixed, serious manhole sinking c3 inches deep with hard metal edge. Already dented an alloy on it...well fed up as cant avoid on blind bend. Fix it asap please as main route!!
