Grass Too Long for Safe Driving
Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 11:20, Fri 21 June 2024
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later
Please can the grass verges be cut between Bow and the junction with the B4508.
The grass is now so long it is spilling into the roadway. This causes drivers to naturally move away from the kerb (as they can't see what's there - potholes for example) and drive nearer to the centre of the road,
On these narrow roads, which also see a lot of van / lorry traffic, this is dangerous.

Please be aware of water voles along the Bow Brook, so don’t cut grass too low (4” to provide cover is good).

Thank you for your enquiry. Oxfordshire County Council, as the Highway Authority, is ultimately responsible for the maintenance of grass verges alongside the carriageway network throughout Oxfordshire (excluding motorways and trunk roads). Under our new approach, all roadside verges in both rural and urban areas are cut once a year. If necessary, we will trim areas that impede driver visibility more regularly. For more details, you can refer to our Highway Verge and Vegetation Management policy at https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/ sites/ default/ files/ file/ roads-and-transport-major-projects/ grasscuttingpolicy.pdf
