Overgrown verge obscuring view to cross road safely

Reported via desktop by Hilda Deane at 08:25, Fri 21 June 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and Vale of White Horse District Council 1 minute later

Crossing the A420 dual carriageway at Draycott Road is hazardous as the vegetation on the roadside has grown so tall in the past few weeks that pedestrians cannot see if any traffic is approaching without almost stepping onto the road itself to get a view.

  • Thank you for your report. Landowners and occupiers are legally obligated to properly maintain vegetation on their property that is next to the public highway. If the vegetation affects the safety of highway users, it becomes their responsibility. However, in this instance, since the highway was not obstructed, there may not be sufficient cause to take further action at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation during statutory inspections.
